World Championships Around the Corner

Untamed Adventure Racing Blog

Mercy, the World Championships are only a few days away and I've been too busy to post anything here.  Neglect!  We have several interviews in the pipeline that *should* be posted in time for the AR World Championships . . . *should* being the operative word.

So stay tuned here or over on Adventure World Mag online where I will be adding my 2 cents to the mix (so far, my only real post over there has been this interview with nuun-FeedTheMachine).  There really is a lot going on that is newsworthy, but I'm lacking the motivation to put it all together, and click the "post" button -- just too many other things occupying my attention.  Maybe the AR spell has worn off for me a bit, and I'm having trouble prioritizing it over other things.

Colin, our rookie who we didn't kill a few weeks ago, will be in Portugal for the whole World Championship race to give us an inside perspective . . . and I'll be there for the final couple days and some organizer meetings.

For those of you not in the AR World Championship loop, check out how much information the organization has made available about the course a month before.  I was shocked to see leg by leg, which discipline and when, distances and elevation, and even amount of sleep estimates . . . we would never do that, and I don't know if I was racing if I'd want all that info because you'll rack your brain trying to strategize around all that juicy course knowledge -- worse case scenario: if you're local you probably have a good idea for where the course is going.  Maybe that's a given, anyway?  I don't know the Porgual terrain but I have to imagine they'd like to surprise even those who know the area (I know I really value the element of surprise and, even, fear when somebody first grasps how big a race course can be).

I don't think I'm old enough to be "old school," but I feel that racers should know as little as possible and learn to love it (check out Ric Flair quote #7 on this list), but maybe the ripe old age of 35 is old school in this AR game?

And yes, if you're keeping score at home, I just worked in a genuine Ric Flair reference and should get triple word score for that or something!
