Some Quick Untamed Notes

• Speaking of Untamed Switzerland, here is a primer on the Romansh language that is spoken in the Engadine valley where our race is organized for 2010.  It's a bit like Latin and left over from when the Romans first settled the high mountain valley, and is one of Switzerland's official 4 languages (German, French, Italian, and Romansh) even though only a very small percentage actually speak it.  For the race, competitors should be fine speaking German or English (all race materials are in English). 

• It's from the 2008 Untamed New England, but somebody recently sent me this link that has the full audio story NH public radio did on the race.  

• One more link on New England: the race message board has a few people looking to form competitive teams for the race this August. I need to dig through Facebook as I remember a couple others looking for teams from several weeks back. Is it just me, or do all the Twitters/Facebooks/Message Boards/Blogs make it really hard to stay on top of things?  I guess that's why they use the term "viral" to describe the whole social media thing.  Maybe I'll try to be better about posting quick updates here so at least there's a more central spot for Untamed goings on.

• The Untamed Adventure Racing team, led by Jason Reed from Virginia, had a tough race up in Vermont and ended up with a medical DNF-- somebody got sick, apparently.  The weekend prior, Sherry, Joel, Jason, (and Will, I think?) finished 3rd at the 12-hour race down in Virginia.

• And finally, on the topic of media, how about this video about a woman looking to lose 200 pounds and pursue her goal to be an adventure racer!  Adventure racing can certainly be inspiring, and it's cool to see it go "mainstream" as a promotional piece here.
