There's so much going on with Untamed New England right now, it's hard for me to remember exactly what is -- and what isn't -- public knowledge. Some details aren't meant to be so secret at this point, they just haven't been officially shared via the race website or the Captain emails etc. Suffice it to say that our final Captain Communication (going out early Aug) will be chocked full of good info!
One race detail that falls into this category is our "Primus Camping" transition area at the race, and it came to mind when a whole lot of Primus Camping was waiting at our shipping hub (my in-laws house in Littleton, New Hampshire) the other day. See the photo from their porch below . . .
Primus Camping is sponsoring a race transition area -- probably the most remote TA in the history of the Untamed New England adventure race -- with their gear. This means several Primus Camping stoves and fuel will be available at this TA for racers to use to boil water and cook "just add water" meals or make hot drinks (if racers choose); this means a large Primus signature BiFrost tent will be available for race staff to administer the TA from, and possibly for racers to catch a nap in (space permitting!); this means Primus Camping sleeping mats and chairs (ingenious, actually, how the mats can fold into chairs and vice-versa) will be available for everyone to use.
It's going to be interesting to see how teams strategize around this; I know last year there was a lot of small stoves in racer gear bins, and knowledge that the Primus Camping TA is on the course would have me bringing a couple dehydrated meals along -- and maybe I'd skip packing my own stove in my gear bin? I'm a sucker for some Alpine Aire Mountain Chili, and I know when the weather turns nasty in New England a hot meal can make a big difference.
