It's been a while since I seasoned this blog with pictures from Switzerland, but I have to share at least this one photo from our trip this weekend (it was a trip to relax and do some hiking -- no real adventure race planning!).
We visited the Bernese Oberland and discovered this incredible mountain lake above the town of Kandersteg. We will be back!
Kandersteg is a tiny village squeezed between giant rock cliffs at the end of a valley (if you've visited Switzerland or done Untamed Switzerland, you may think every Swiss village is like this but it's actually not the case...). At the southern end of the valley is a rocky 10 mile path over the Alps, called the Gemmi Pass; the Gemmi connects to another valley on the other side of the pass at the village of Leukerbad. Since we spent a weekend in Leukerbad a couple winters ago, we thought this trip to the other side of the mountains, to Kandersteg, was called for. Here is a shot from our visit to Leukerbad and if you click the photo you'll go to our photo gallery from that trip:
Of course, when I say no adventure race planning took place . . . that's only partly true. We weren't scouting terrain for Untamed Switzerland or anything like that, but it is amazing how creative Jill gets after a bottle or two of wine! Let's say we came up with some creative plans for the next year or so and it's going to be a lot of fun seeing how we follow through on some of these ideas. People think I'm the crazy one when it comes to races, but Jill has a wicked style all her own; all I will say is: if we can pull off a late night fondue dinner on a snowy moonlit summit for the first night of Untamed Switzerland 2010, we can credit Jill with the concept.
