I want to post these maps from the SnowRaid race; it's always nice to keep a record of maps for reference down the road. The checkpoints are either on the Strong or Light courses, marked with an "S" or "L" respectively. All CPs had to be obtained in order.
The maps were printed by the race org using the Swiss topographic map database; very accurate and based on 1:25,000 scale. These race maps were scaled down to fit on the standard 8x11 inch paper and so it made them a bit tougher to read at times -- but I don't really have any complaints about the maps.
Map #1: the source of much confusion for us since teams were instructed (in German/French) to skip the first several checkpoints as the start was at CP 6; this happened right as the starting gun went off since we had no chance to review maps before the race. CP 6 isn't even on Map #1! My thumb is covering the starting circle identified on the map (sorry about that!)
Map #2: We started at CP 6 and had to head back to CPs 4 and 5 before continuing to 7. The one on top of the Chassaral was really windy and cold.
Map #3: The final portion of the Saturday course and shows the "Snowraid Camp" as our igloo building and overnight location.
Map #4: The only map for the Sunday portion of the race, we switched to the "light" course (marked by the letter L checkpoints) as our gear was shot and I'm a lousy skier.
And I'll mix in one last photo taken by the race organization and emailed out to everyone . . .
