A couple of my scribbles, and a first taste of Crossfit

Some recent scribbles of mine have cropped up on the internet this week . . .

  • 5 Questions with Huairasinchi Race Director Santiago López for No Boundaries Magazine
    • The leadership behind Adventure World Magazine is moving over to "No Boundaries Mag" -- they're in the midst of a rebranding/redesign there so it's still confusing.  The website URL is still "Adventure World Magazine" but the masthead and branding are for "No Boundaries."  Regardless, there's no question I'm excited for this race down in Ecuador, from Andean mountain summits over 4,000 meters high to rain forest at 0 meters.  Our team, racing as the Apex Switzerland team, is joined on the Ecuador race roster by luminaries such as the reigning World Champions (Buff Thermocool -- but racing with at least a different female racer than usual) and Thule Adventure Team.  There are a couple Danish teams, including one Skandia team (the same Skandia that claimed 2nd place at Untamed New England 2010 -- again, however, with slightly different personnel) and another AdventureRacers.dk which includes friend Fiola Foley as their Irish secret weapon.

So there you go, I haven't been slacking so much on the writing front after-all!

I've also recently drank some Crossfit kool-aid thanks to Chef Jeff Grant at Hillseeker Fitness here in Zürich; he kept singing the praises of Crossfit and so I'm doing a few hours a week in "the box" as the cool Crossfit-cognoscenti like to say.  So far I'm enjoying the variety of the workouts and I'm confident it will improve my fitness for an adventure race; it may be too late to have much impact on my shape for the Ecuador race in just a couple weeks, but further down the road I'm sure to reap rewards for all the plyometrics, pull-ups, and functional resistance training.
