Untamed Adventure Racing Audio Blog
How This Works

We will be calling in updates from the course during our race in Patagonia, February 2008. We have special permission from the race organizers to use our own satellite phone . . . and we call a phone number that records our messages and stores the audio files on our web server. This page will automatically update when a new message comes in.

""Rob, what an amazing adventure. So glad you and your team are safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing you soon and hearing all about your exciting experience!""
    -Jo Ann on 2/21/2008

"Grant, Thanks for the updates. I'm sure all of your friends will tell you how little information has been coming out of that patagonia race organization. Thanks for telling us that our Team Littleton Bike & Fitness was still going strong. Thats the best news we got so far! "
    -Dave Harkless on 2/21/2008

"Rob, Good to hear you are back and safe after your "Adventure". Anxious to hear your stories. Mom"

"Sherry,Joel, and Team: Saw Sherry's latest comment today, and I am relieved to know you are all back safely and intact (with the exception of Grant's feet).I'm sure all of us back in civilization feel much pride in knowing such driven people. You inspire us all!! At least you'll be ready for the paddle and ropes next time, my little warrior wife!"
    -Stephen on 2/20/2008

"We are finally back in Punta Arenas. What an adventure we had. We are sore, but safe. I have lots of pictures and stories to tell. Patagonia has given us to opportunity to experience more than we could have imagined. I am so glad for this opportunity my only regret is that we didn´t get to paddle or do the ropes. Another time maybe"
    -Sherry on 2/20/2008

"Great try everyone. You can never practice for a "kick in the nuts". It's always going to hurt, no matter what you do. I look forward to hearing all of the details. Best Regards, Al Becker"
    -Navigator 46 on 2/20/2008

"Grant and team, everyone here in the Hampton Roads area is extremely proud of you all! I know the cycling community has been following Rob since the start and we'll be looking forward to hearing all the stories. - Marc"

"congratulations to you all especially Sherry and Joel. I am glad to see you are safe with, I'm sure stories galore. Take care and I wish you well."
    -barney on 2/19/2008

"OK, here is the latest as I know it -- I´m out of the hospital and walking pretty well. No marathons for a week or so, but look out for me in April! I´ve reserved rooms at a nice hotel in town for the rest of the team; they should arrive by ferry tongiht and I´m working to get their bags together and meet them there. While at the hospital, at shared a room with one of the key members of the organizing team who cut his hand on the course and so I got to follow most of what´s going on. Only 3 or 4 teams made CP4, the end of the 70+ mile trek, and they´re all continuing on in the race. No teams did the paddle leg due to weather. The teams still in the race are a French team with a nice American women from St. Martens (her first AR!) -- they are very experienced and going strong, likely to win the race. Also on the course is the Turkish team with very strong navigation and ultrarunning background. The other American team, Littleton Bike Shop, are still on the course and going strong! They´ve done lots of expedition racing (Europe, Mexico, etc) and we wish them well. There MIGHT be a 4th team from SPain still racing, but those details aren´t clear. OK, I´m off to eat and maybe we´ll get a call in on the sat phone once Sherry, Joel, and Rob come off the ferry tonight. I´m guessing their first priority will be sh0wering, though. Thanks again for all the support everyone! "
-Grant from Punta Arenas on 2/19/2008

"Sherry and team, Congratulations on a supreme effort that few in the world would even contemplate. We are all proud of you, and glad you are safe and "mostly" well. "
    -Stephen on 2/19/2008

"I am glad you are all safe. You accomplished alot and got as far as most ever other team. Ptayers continue to be with you and I pray Grant is okay and will be back with you soon when you get back to where you started. Get some rest and have some fun the next few days. Peggy "
    -Peggy on 2/18/2008

"Holy Moly! You guys did phenomenal! What an incredible experience! Don't think about the days you missed but about the days you raced. Congratulations on all of the work involved in racing 6 intense days! Wishing you safe post race travels...eat, drink, SLEEP, and know that you accomplished a truely amazing journey! Looking forward to all of the nitty gritty!!!"

    -Lucy & Andy on 2/18/2008

"Team Untamed, You took on some of the toughest terrain in the world with lttle infrastructure to help guide you along the way and made it an incredible distance. For this you should be very proud of yourselves because we are all proud of you. Montana would have been a walk in the park for you four compared to this. Enjoy the country during the rest of your adventure in Patagonia and we look fwd to all the stories upon your return. Take Care, Mark"
    -VAIronman Mark on 2/18/2008

"Hi Untamed fans! I just wanted to update you all with what I knew so far since they've stopped calling in. The team did miss the cut off at CP4 along with quite a few other teams (gossip is that only 3 made the cutoff) - so we aren't sure how many teams are still racing. After spending the night with another team on the banks of a huge lake the team was shuttled to a lodge of sorts(ie, some warm place). After that the details get sketchy, but Grant's feet were in pretty bad condition, so he's getting some medical attention and the team was split up (grant to the hospital) so I'm not sure where any of them are at this point - the adventure continues! All are safe and well, otherwise. Thanks for all the support; I know it means so much to them!"
    -Jill on 2/18/2008

"Hey guys - what an experience! You faced harsh terrain in extreme conditions with some of the top AR'ers in the world, and no doubt learned alot along the way! Can't wait to hear the details - we're proud of you. See you when you get home! Ed"
    -Ed, VASKC on 2/17/2008
