Quick History of Untamed Adventure

It all started back in 2004 . . . after a few years of racing, we had the idea for an adventure race that emphasized quality and authentic adventure over triathlon style follow-the-leader racing. We wanted a race that rewarded strong map skills as well as speed and fitness.

The first race came a few months later . . . it was a sell-out, we asked all our friends to help, and it was a great success.

Fast-forward to today and Untamed Adventure Racing is now conducting events recognized around the world for challenge, fun, and organizational excellence. We're proud to have North America's only event in the prestigious circuit of elite races known as the Adventure Racing World Series; past participants have called our race in Switzerland "the most satisfying race experience ever." We set a high standard for our events, and you can tell a difference.

Key Personnel

Grant Killian (Chief Instigator)
Organizer of hundreds of miles of memorable races, Grant has a proven track record of building challenging and fun events. He's also accomplished at building race organizations with mass appeal. Untamed Adventure is his labour of love and, when not racing himself, Grant can be found scouring locations for "memorable" orienteering checkpoints.

Jill Peloquin (Race Management)
Along for the ride from the very beginning, Jill has mastered the ins-and-outs of event logistics and race coordination. Before the race, Jill evaluates the course and seasons parts of the event with her own sense of challenge. On race day, Jill is the command center that makes sure everything is just right. She has competed in adventure races, too, famously beating Grant at a Sprint race years ago in Richmond, VA.

Joy Hunt (Organizational Management)
Joy's attention to detail makes her a great fit for this role -- from marketing to race day coordination, she wears many different hats. Joy can tell tales from late shifts at race headquarters and pre-race paperwork shenanigans. When everyone else is playing cards at the staff pre-race poker game, Joy is finishing up all the loose ends.

Jason Reed (Competitor Relations Manager)
Drafted into service after several years of racing Untamed events, Jason brings a fresh racer mentality to the organization. With a background in climbing and competitive mountain bike racing, Jason is a logical fit for handling participant inquiries and shaping the racer-facing elements of our events.
